Solar energy street lights are outdoor lighting systems powered by photovoltaic (PV) panels that harness sunlight to generate electricity. These systems consist of solar panels, LED lamps, charge controllers, batteries, and supporting poles.
In recent years, the adoption of renewable energy solutions has gained significant momentum worldwide. Among these, solar energy street lights have emerged as an innovative and sustainable alternative to traditional street lighting systems.
Leveraging the principles of photovoltaic cells, the solar street lighting system captures solar energy during the day, converting it into electrical energy stored in a battery. As night descends, the lamps activate automatically, drawing power from the stored energy, thus ensuring uninterrupted operation.
Figure 3 illustrates the low-voltage energy system for the proposed streetlight, comprising solar energy and a battery. The bus voltage level is 48 V DC. The energy structure of the system consists of solar energy, a battery storage system, and a controller as its primary components.
The optimization method used in this work to design the solar photovoltaic street lighting system is the Generalized Reduced Gradient (GRG) algorithm, chosen for its ease of use (Smeers,
