Manufacturers of PV modules seeking legal access to the Brazilian market must obtain INMETRO certification. This certification is essential for each module type or product line that undergoes the same manufacturing process. The Brazilian standards applicable to PV modules are akin to and tested in accordance with the corresponding IEC standards.
From July 1, 2011, all photovoltaic products entering the Brazilian market need to pass relevant testing and be registered with INMETRO. After six months (from January 1, 2012), manufacturers and importers in the Brazilian market and the photovoltaic products sold shall subject to relevant testing and registration with INMETRO.
São Paulo, Brazil, July 24th, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Sungrow, the global leading PV inverter and energy storage system provider, proudly announced that all dynamic models of its inverters sold in Brazil have been officially approved by Brazil's National Electric System Operator (ONS).
Another relevant standard is rapid shutdown (RSD), which many Brazilian states are considering as an additional safety solution. One issue with a photovoltaic system is that it generates electrical voltage as long as light shines on the panels, even if the inverter or utility grid is turned off. This poses risks for maintenance and firefighting.
Abstract This paper discusses the Brazilian photovoltaic grid-connected inverters standard comparatively with their European and North American counterparts.
